As you know, Lent is soon upon us beginning with Ash Wednesday. What is Lent? To some it is giving up a treat, to others praying more often and for still others, another sort of sacrifice. "Lent is a time where many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual reflection."
The purpose of Lent is to set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ, his suffering, his sacrifice, his life, his fasting, his death, burial, and resurrection. When you walk into Church what is the first thing that you notice? I notice my Lord Jesus Christ hanging on a Cross for us. Jesus Christ made the ultimate sacrifice of giving his life for the forgiveness of our sins.
Lent equals fasting and prayer. As Pope Francis stated that we need to rediscover corporal works of mercy. Feeding the hungry of our PARISH and COMMUNITY is one of them.
Our local Social Services Dept does a great job assisting families feeding, helping with bills and other things as well. to see stats click here. As a fraternal organization we will be assisting with this Drive to help with stocking St Theresa's Soup Kitchen with non parishable items or cash donations. This Lent is a time to realize the sacrifices Jesus did for us but also to be giving and helping families in need!!
